Big App on Campus: AppMakr Jamie Needs Your Votes!
Did you hear? There’s an election coming up.
No, not that one. The election for Microsoft’s “Big App on Campus”!
The Big App on Campus Challenge is a competition held by Microsoft for college students to show off their Windows app skillz. Young gun developers from across America submit a Windows phone app for the chance to win a trip to Austin to attend SXSW and a private concert (and party backstage with the band), and be featured in a radio interview about their application. Oh, and did we mention the $15,000 in cash prizes? Yeah, there’s that too.
It’s a big flippin’ deal. And what do you know it, one of our very own AppMakrs, Jamie Timbre, is in the running with a fan-tas-tic Windows app he created with the AppMakr platform. It’s called SchoolStuff @Chicago U, and not only is it mighty sharp looking, it’s useful too! Jamie’s app gives University of Chicago students real-time access to campus news. With Facebook, Twitter, and multimedia feeds, it’s a great way for them to keep up to date on campus activity, straight from the palm of their mitten-hands (it’s February in Chicago, after all).
The apps are judged on innovation (how innovative is the idea), experience (does it offer a seamless, native experience) and potential (does it have market potential), and Jamie’s app is killing it. Windows Phoners, download the app here and see for yourself. You can also check out some screenshots below.
Voting ends February 29th, 2012, at midnight so get your clicking finger ready. Your votes are needed! Vote by hitting the “like” button beside the app on the Microsoft Tech Student: BIG APP ON CAMPUS Facebook page.
Go Jamie go!
